Pharmaceutical research

Key benefits from research

The key benefit from using research results is monitoring the market situation and the ability to influence sales.

Opportunities of the method

Thanks to a survey of doctors and monitoring data, it is possible to obtain information about seasonal diseases, prescribed medecines, as well as information about visits to medical representatives, the visibility of advertising of new medecines, and much more.

Sample size and timeline

The minimum sample size for such projects is 100 questionnaires (for surveys of doctors) or 80-100 pharmacies (for monitoring pharmacies) per region. By region we mean any territory for which separate analytics is required (this could be, for example, a city or country). The minimum period for surveying this quantity is 5 working days.

Cost

The cost of pharmaceutical research consists of the cost of data collection (questionnaires/diaries/other) and the cost of data analysis (usually no more than 10-15% of the cost of data collection).

A BCGroup specialist can calculate the cost of the project.

Description of the approach

Pharmaceutical marketing research differs from research in other markets in that the dynamics of indicators are most often important here. It could be:

1. Assessing the recognition of medecines;
2. Structure of morbidity, dependence on season;
3. Attendance of doctors by medical representatives;
4. Tracking medecines sales volumes;
5. Study of doctors’ satisfaction with medecines;
6. Determining the reasons for choosing medecines;
7. Testing materials for doctors, pharmacists and much more

Surveys of doctors are conducted both in person (personal visits) and in absentia - using remote visits (by phone or online).

In our experience, less than 30% of doctors are available online, which is why personal visits and telephone interviews are more often used to collect data.

Process of research

Pharmaceutical research is research with different objectives and, accordingly, methods. Therefore, BCGroup’s work on this type of project is structured as follows:

1. An NDA (confidentiality agreement) is signed between BCGroup and the company;
2. A BCGroup specialist agrees with the customer on the data collection method and tools;
3. BCGroup specialists collect data in a short time (from 5 working days);
4. Next, the BCGroup employee transfers the data array to the customer’s representative in Excel or SPSS format;
5. After 3-5 days, a BCGroup employee sends an analytical report to the customer.
